Excited to be an invited speaker at Hatfield Marine Science Center yesterday. I got to see lots of familiar faces at my old stomping grounds in Newport, OR and enjoyed catching up with folks who were integral in my development as a scientist. I first came to HMSC as an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates summer intern nearly 16 years ago! Check out the recording of my talk. Excited to be part of a new multi-year, $4.8M project to enable better management actions through an integrated model of the Puget Sound ecosystem, funded in part by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. The integrated model combines five smaller, more specific models of respective ecosystem components and will provide novel insights on the interconnected nature of Puget Sound's ecosystems. Watch our team describe the project goals and how each of the models fit together! Get more info on the project website. I recently contributed to a blog post series for Washington The Nature Conservancy on "Innovation in Stormwater". Want to learn more about some of the methods we're using at University of Washington to innovate stormwater planning and management? Read here!
My journey to a PhD came to an end on September 1st. I am thrilled to share with you the recording of my dissertation defense talk. Now - onward and upward to a postdoc position at the University of Washington - Tacoma's Puget Sound Institute! Check out this recent interview with Pew - U.S. West Coast about my research on seagrass in the Pacific Northwest!
Check out this fabulous new video produced by Oregon State University. It highlights local actions being taken in Oregon to ameliorate and understand the impacts of OA on the west coast. Part One of this important story can be viewed here.
As the 2018 field season winds down, a quick shout out to all my excellent volunteer field helpers this summer. Fiona and Mack are superstar undergrad students at Oregon State University. Plus, I had the special opportunity to get my Dad out in the eelgrass beds at Netarts Bay and Yaquina Bay! As always, a number of summer interns and staff at South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve were crucial in helping me sample eelgrass ecosystems in Coos Bay. Thank you, all!
PBS NewsHour recently featured the Oregon Public Broadcasting piece on OA & eelgrass! Check it out here. |
